why do i answer questions
in ways that i expect will please others
why do i think
in ways society has taught me to
just interesting enough
why am i marking time to someone else’s
drum
why am i petrified of what
i might uncover
if i delve beyond
the superficial
- make something meaningful

Poem No 28
Thanks Emily. This is one of society's perennial questions: stay safe behind the mask, or risk rejection by being real. How can people today navigate these tricky waters in the face of overwhelming criticism and peer judgment via anti-social media and cancel culture? Hopefully by the end of this long poem (105 short ones pinned together) readers will have an enhanced response to this question.
I dig your line drawings! And great questions.
